  • 9x13 inch baking dish (for dump cake)

Ingredients

  • 1 (15.25 oz) box strawberry cake mix
  • ½ cup liquid (milk, sour cream, or yogurt recommended) Use milk, sour cream, or yogurt for enhanced moisture and texture over water.
  • ½ cup melted butter Recommended over vegetable oil for a richer flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla or strawberry extract To increase flavor complexity and aroma.
  • ½ cup mix-ins (optional) Such as fresh strawberries, white chocolate chips, freeze-dried strawberries, or maraschino cherries.

Optional Toppings

  • frosting (vanilla or cream cheese)
  • fruit glaze
  • whipped topping
  • sprinkles
  • lemon zest

Dump Cake Variation Base

  • 1 (15.25 oz) box strawberry cake mix
  • 1 (21 oz) can strawberry pie filling or fresh fruit
  • ½ cup butter, melted

No-Bake Option Base

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup freeze-dried strawberries, crushed

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to the temperature specified by your cake mix box, typically 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the strawberry cake mix, your chosen liquid (milk, sour cream, or yogurt), melted butter, and extract. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  • Gently fold in any desired mix-ins like fresh strawberries or white chocolate chips.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-14 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are set. For softer cookies, bake closer to 10 minutes; for chewier cookies, bake a minute or two longer.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once cooled, decorate with your favorite frosting, glaze, whipped topping, or sprinkles.

Dump Cake Variation

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the strawberry pie filling or fresh fruit evenly in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the dry strawberry cake mix evenly over the fruit layer. Drizzle the melted butter over the cake mix.
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and bubbly. Serve warm.

No-Bake Option

  • In a bowl, combine crumbled baked strawberry cake with powdered sugar and crushed freeze-dried strawberries.
  • Mix well until a dough-like consistency forms. Roll into small balls and chill before serving.

Notes

For enhanced moisture and texture, always opt for milk, sour cream, or yogurt over water. Adding fresh strawberries directly to the batter provides a vibrant burst of flavor and juice. Extracts can be used to deepen the flavor complexity and enhance the aroma of your cookies. Feel free to customize with various frostings, glazes, or toppings to create unique and appealing finishes.
