Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound fresh asparagus thick spears preferred
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt or to taste
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 clove minced garlic optional
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice optional
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese optional
  • Red pepper flakes to taste, optional

Instructions
 

  • Rinse the asparagus under cold water and snap off the tough ends.
  • Pat the asparagus dry and preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Mix olive oil, salt, and pepper in a bowl, adding garlic if desired.
  • Toss the asparagus in the seasoning mixture until coated.
  • Spread the asparagus on a baking sheet and roast for 10-15 minutes.
  • Check for tenderness and optionally drizzle with lemon juice and sprinkle with Parmesan.
  • Serve immediately, optionally garnished with fresh herbs.

Notes

Use asparagus of similar thickness for even cooking and avoid overcooking for a tender-crisp texture. High roasting temperature enhances flavor through caramelization.
