Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking pan
  • saucepan

Ingredients

  • 6 oz Strawberry Jello
  • 2 cups Boiling water
  • 2 cups Salted Pretzels, crushed
  • ¼ cup Sugar (for crust)
  • 8 tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • 8 oz Cream Cheese, softened
  • ½ cup Sugar (for filling)
  • 8 oz Whipped Topping, thawed
  • 1 lb Strawberries, sliced

Instructions

  • Dissolve Jello powder in boiling water until fully dissolved, then let it cool to room temperature.
  • Melt butter in a saucepan, then stir in ¼ cup sugar and crushed pretzels. Press this mixture firmly into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking pan and bake for 10 minutes. Allow the crust to cool completely.
  • While the crust cools, beat softened cream cheese with ½ cup sugar until combined. Fold in the thawed whipped topping.
  • Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the cooled pretzel crust and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Stir sliced strawberries into the cooled Jello mixture. Pour this Jello mixture over the cream cheese layer and refrigerate for 2-3 hours until set.

Notes

Use room temperature cream cheese and fully thawed whipped topping for best consistency. Ensure the Jello mixture cools to room temperature before pouring to prevent mixing with the cream cheese layer. Seal the cream cheese layer evenly to create a barrier between layers. Fresh strawberries are preferred for texture, but frozen strawberries can be used to help set the Jello. Follow the recipe instructions rather than package directions for the Jello. Do not freeze the finished dessert. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days. Best served within 12 hours of preparation to maintain crust crispness; make at least ½ day in advance. Substitutions: Crushed Ritz crackers, graham crackers, or vanilla wafers can replace pretzels. Raspberry Jell-O and raspberries can replace strawberry flavor. Homemade whipped cream is not recommended; Cool Whip or similar stabilized whipped topping is preferred.
