Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup strawberries fresh or frozen, hulled
  • ½ cup sugar divided
  • 2 cups heavy cream divided
  • 1 cup milk divided
  • 1 tsp lemon juice divided
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract divided
  • as needed red food coloring for strawberry layer
  • as needed blue food coloring for blueberry layer

Vanilla Layer

  • ½ cup sugar divided
  • 1 cup heavy cream divided
  • ½ cup milk divided
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract divided

Blueberry Layer

  • ½ cup sugar divided
  • 1 cup heavy cream divided
  • ½ cup milk divided
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract divided
  • as needed blueberry flavoring optional, for enhanced flavor

Assembly

  • plastic wrap or nonstick foil for lining pans

Instructions
 

  • Line three loaf pans with plastic wrap or nonstick foil and set aside.
  • For the strawberry layer, blend strawberries and about 1/4 cup sugar until pureed. Combine with 1 cup cream, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 tsp lemon juice, and 1/4 tsp vanilla. Add red food coloring to achieve desired shade.
  • Process the strawberry mixture in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer directions. Spread 2 cups of the strawberry ice cream into one loaf pan. Cover and freeze until firm.
  • For the vanilla layer, combine 1/4 cup sugar, 1 cup cream, 1/2 cup milk, and 1/4 tsp vanilla. Process in an ice cream maker. Spread 2 cups of vanilla ice cream over the frozen strawberry layer in its pan. Cover and freeze.
  • For the blueberry layer, combine 1/4 cup sugar, 1 cup cream, 1/2 cup milk, 1/4 tsp vanilla, and optional blueberry flavoring. Add blue food coloring to achieve desired shade. Process in an ice cream maker. Spread 2 cups of blueberry ice cream over the frozen vanilla layer in its pan. Cover and freeze.
  • Repeat the process for the remaining flavors and layers, ensuring each layer is frozen until firm before adding the next. Freeze the entire loaf until solid.
  • To serve, invert the pans to remove the ice cream loaf. Cut into slices and enjoy your patriotic creation.
