Equipment

  • air fryer
  • large bowl
  • saucepan
  • meat thermometer

Ingredients

  • 2-3 pounds chicken wings
  • fresh lemons zest and juice
  • 2 tablespoons freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • olive oil or cooking spray
  • parsley optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Wash and pat dry chicken wings thoroughly to ensure crispiness. Zest and juice the lemons, setting both aside for later use.
  • In a large bowl, combine lemon zest, black pepper, salt, and garlic powder. Add the chicken wings and toss until evenly coated with the seasoning mixture.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes. Lightly grease the air fryer basket with olive oil or cooking spray.
  • Arrange the seasoned wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, avoiding overcrowding. Air fry for 20-25 minutes, turning the wings halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  • While the wings are cooking, melt the butter in a saucepan. Remove from heat and stir in the fresh lemon juice to create the sauce.
  • Once cooked, transfer the wings to a clean bowl. Pour the lemon butter sauce over the wings and toss to coat evenly. Garnish with parsley if desired and serve immediately.

Internal Temperature Check

  • Ensure the internal temperature of the wings reaches at least 165°F (74°C) using a meat thermometer.

Storage

  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat in an air fryer or oven to restore crispiness; avoid microwaving.

Notes

Thaw frozen wings before cooking for better seasoning absorption and even cooking. Use whole wings or separate sections based on preference. Preheat the air fryer like an oven for best results. Avoid stacking wings in the basket to ensure even cooking and crispiness. Serve immediately while hot and fresh. Pair with celery, carrot sticks, fries, or dipping sauces such as ranch or blue cheese. Use high-quality unsalted butter for the sauce. Adjust spice levels by modifying the amount of black pepper or adding cayenne.
