Equipment

  • Dutch oven
  • 9x13 casserole pan

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bacon chopped
  • cup yellow onion chopped
  • 2 cans (28 oz each) baked beans
  • ½ cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a Dutch oven over medium heat, cook chopped bacon until halfway done. Add chopped yellow onion and cook until bacon is crispy and onion is translucent, about 7 minutes. Remove from heat.
  • Stir in the baked beans, BBQ sauce, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar until everything is well combined.
  • Bake uncovered for 40 minutes, or transfer to a sprayed 9x13 casserole pan and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Let the beans rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to thicken.

Notes

For best results, allow the baked beans to rest for 5-10 minutes after baking, as serving immediately can result in a soup-like consistency. A Dutch oven is ideal for one-pot preparation, but a regular skillet followed by a casserole dish works too. For a slow cooker method, after sautéing bacon and onions, transfer to a crockpot and cook on LOW for 5 hours or HIGH for 3.5 hours.
